Consciousness in business

“Bringing yin, into a yang (business) world”

- Grace Lucky -

It is time…

I feel it is 1 minute to 12.

The climate crisis is at its peak, the refugee streams are larger than ever before and burnouts are a global health problem.

Coincidences? I don’t think so. I strongly believe that it is a wake-up call. We’ve outgrown our old system and are in the look-out for a new narrative: from welfare, to wellbeing.

However, change never comes easy and transforming a system does not happen overnight. The world is on fire, and so are we. The ‘lifestyle’ diseases demonstrate us that something isn’t working any longer. Mother earth and its population are experiencing ‘dis-ease’. A request to change, a call to action.

How does this impact your organization?

More and more organizations are experiencing increasing numbers of sick leaves due to stress, burnouts and other wellbeing struggles of employees. Add up the current challenges individuals face because of the home-office and dissolving work and (private) life boundaries and you’ve got the entire package.

Besides the immense impact these situations have on the employees itself, it also affects the team, team spirit and culture greatly.

Though some individuals might feel and perform better than ever before, others might face intense struggles while working from home. The impact depends highly on the individual and the private setting and therefore, no ‘one-size-fits-all’ solution is at hand. Nevertheless, there’s always a common denominator available: we are all human beings. As human beings, we all have one thing in common, and that is the need and desire for connection.

Though we are theoretically and practically able to easily connect online. It is not the same as being physically present. We happen to miss many of the wordless signals the non-verbal communication is usually providing and therewith miss the ability to ‘read’ or sense each other’s mood, gesture, posture and physical behavior.

During the summer of 2020, I conducted research for my executive master at professional service firms on the sustainability of change decisions during crises. One of the main findings coming out of this was the fact that, communication, connection and engagement are found to be the main elements of managing a crisis successfully and sustaining a positive team culture. However, these elements are more difficult to maintain when being physically distant from each other. Even though working virtually does have some positive attributes from a process and practical point of view, from a social and human perspective working full-time from the home-office is not sustainable in the long-term.

You are aware of this…

…but did not have enough time to focus on internal matters (yet).

2020 has been mainly about:

  • adapting to the new way of working

  • making sure your team could continue their work from home

  • maintaining client relationships

  • the continuity of your business

  • cancelling the rent for additional office space

  • scenario planning

  • providing home-office assistance to your employees

  • finding ways to stay connected with each other

And you managed well, but feel there has not been enough attention to the individual needs and experiences. In fact, it has been very difficult to really understand the impact on the individuals, the team and the culture.

Therefore, you feel that it is necessary to shift your focus. Now that everyone is familiar with the home-office and the work is continuing, it is time to check what is needed for everyone to stay happy, healthy, engaged and connected
going forward.

Maybe you would like to:

  • offer a trainings programme around wellbeing, mental health & (self)empowerment.

  • open up the conversation about working-from-home challenges during an online lunch session.

  • discuss personal values and boundaries with your team members and help them to focus on what they are good at, energizes them and reduce/prevent stress, burnout and boreout symptoms.

  • give employees the option to get 1:1 coaching.

  • organize a Connection Circle for your team.

  • organize an afternoon for your team, specifically focused on prevention, conscious living & working, or personal leadership. Including multiple break-out sessions, covering different topics and offering several activities.

  • break the vulnerability barrier and bring your team - though physically distant from each other - closer together.

    And you are looking for:
a facilitator, mediator and coach who is an experience
expert with a background in the corporate world.

Let’s discuss the needs and wishes together and see what the best suitable options are for you and your team.

Sessions in Dutch or English.

The ‘(self)conscious leaders program’

“Being conscious of what motivates and energizes you, enables you to become aware of your personal boundaries. Once you are capable of integrating and acting upon that, you will start to feel better, perform more naturally, become more empathic and connect on a deeper level with your colleagues and clients: all resulting in a more sustainable and joyful work-life balance”
